The State Workers Compensation Act allows the state to assess a civil penalty of up to $500 per day for lack of coverage. The fine is determined on a case by case basis and is based on a number of factors, with a statutory minimum fine of $10,000. Note: An employer may now face criminal charges and/or a work-stop order for failing to provide workers compensation insurance.

Appeals—Compliance Requirements |
Appeals must be filed in the circuit courts within 20 days from the date the decision is received by the parties.
